Have you ever took out more books than you can read from the library? It happens to me all the time. I don’t know what it is about libraries but I certainly feel like an addict of some sorts when I’m in one. Is it the thirst of knowledge, or the easy access, or both? I know I will not finished a single one of the nine books I took out so I have to renew some and return the rest. What a wasteful habit I have developed.
I wonder if anybody else has the same problem. And I never learn. The next time I’m in the library again I’ll probably take out more than I can chew.
You are definately not alone. I do this all of the time, and have simply decided there’s no shame in it. Why hang onto stuff that I don’t feel like reading at the moment? Let someone else enjoy it, and, if I feel the need later, the library will still have it. Se la vie.

You are definitely not alone, Hiatt. For years, I have been experiencing the same thing. Only, for me, I tend to feel it worse because I like to buy my books. So I think having that experience with books that you check out from the library is probably a little less wasteful. I’ve been trying to practice some more restraint and forcing myself to read faster so that I can get through my piles of reading, but by now I think I’ve learned that the stack will only grow bigger and that I’ll never finish reading all of the books that I want to read. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. This way, we can continue to stand in wonder and excitement between the stacks of books at the public library or in our own homes
I think buying so many books keeps moving out harder. So that’s why I either don’t buy books or buy less. But you are also resell books on half.com after you’re done reading them so you’ll have more room, hopefully for something other than books.
P.S. – Sorry for the late comment. I thought no one read my blog anymore.
